The Investigator, assigned to a specific client, is responsible for conducting comprehensive reviews and analyses of various digital and physical evidence. With a focus on developing suspect profiles and actionable intelligence, the role involves maintaining a strict chain of custody, utilizing advanced techniques, and collaborating with law enforcement to ensure successful case resolutions while adhering to all applicable laws and ethical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Represent Pinkerton’s core values of integrity, vigilance, and excellence.
  • Utilize advanced investigative techniques and resources to identify unknown subjects present within provided evidence.
  • Complete thorough review, analysis, and processing of diverse digital and physical evidence, including but not limited to, photos, videos documents, and physical evidence from a variety of sources and types.
  • Assess and identify key individuals, objects, and activities within provided evidence.
  • Establish chronological sequences and actionable intelligence from disparate data points.
  • Build robust evidentiary packages to establish proof of criminal activity, suitable for presentation in a court of law, legal proceedings, investigations findings resulting in successful prosecutions.
  • Maintain a strict chain of custody for all evidence, both received and processed.
  • Develop suspect profiles based on available information and evidence.
  • Cross-reference information with public and proprietary databases, open-source intelligence, and other investigative tools to confirm identities.
  • Develop and execute strategies to locate identified criminals, including but not limited to, digital footprint analysis, geolocation and movement tracking (where legally permissible and ethically sound).
  • Conduct surveillance, intelligence gathering, and provide actionable intelligence to local law enforcement for the safe and lawful apprehension of identified individuals.
  • Provision expert testimony (if required) to support the findings of the investigation.
  • Work directly with prosecuting attorneys to ensure all necessary evidence and investigative insights are available for successful prosecution.
  • Follow established protocols for maintaining the confidentiality and security of all sensitive information, evidence, and investigative findings.
  • Provide clear, concise, and timely investigative reports and regular updates to the client and collaborating law enforcement agencies.
  • Establish contacts and maintain partnership with local law enforcement agencies in respective markets. 
  • All other duties, as assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree with ten to fifteen years of criminal investigations experience including digital forensics, intelligence gathering, evidence handling, forensic analysis, interview techniques, report writing, and law enforcement/district attorney interaction. Current CA BSIS Guard Card is required.

  • Law Enforcement background in criminal investigations and evidence handling, preferred.
  • Reid or Wicklander Zulawski certification, preferred.
  • Professional Certified Investigator (PCI) certification or current California PI license, preferred.
  • Deep understanding of local judicial system, criminal procedures and the operational protocols of city police departments, County Sheriff offices, and State Bureaus of Investigation.
  • Knowledge of the chain of command and how to effectively integrate investigative findings into law enforcement operations.
  • Understanding of legal limitations and protocols when interacting with law enforcement and conducting investigations.
  • Able to prepare detailed investigative reports, summaries, and presentations for legal proceedings that meet expected writing proficiency standards.
  • Able to establish mutual trust that facilitates efficient information exchange and coordinated efforts in criminal investigations and apprehension.
  • Able to protect personally identifiable information (PII) and case-specific details from unauthorized access or disclosure.
  • Knowledge of investigative tools and resources including surveillance equipment, proprietary databases, open-source intelligence platforms and methodologies, geospatial analysis, skip tracing and person-finding software, and digital forensics software and hardware.
  • Able to manage multiple case files and projects with competing deadlines and priorities.
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal, for effective interaction with all stakeholders.
  • Computer skills: Google Suite, WebWiz, Kaseware and other incident management systems.
